OECD research and development statistics

The OECD research and development statistics (RDS) represent a series of global, comparable statistics on expenditure, government budget allocations for R&D (GBARD) and personnel. The data is collected annually.

Definitions and additional data sources used in figure 6:

Public funding is the total amount of Government budget appropriations for R&D.
Public funding data for New Zealand and other countries is taken from OECD R&D. GDP for each country is taken from the OECD MSTI.
Public funding data for all countries (and for New Zealand from 2010 to 2015) is taken from OECD R&D. Data from 2016-2020 is from New Zealand Treasury appropriations in which public funding amounts were determined. The data from 2016-2020 is then converted into OECD values (for NZ in dollar PPP). This data is then GDP for all countries is taken from the OECD MSTI and then converted into percentages.

Data for recalcualted or approximated NZ values were converted into OECD values for NZ in dollar PPP and then calculated into percentages.
